The HR Associate plays an important role in supporting our team through administrative and engagement focused duties.  They support Forth’s growing personnel and human resources practices, ensure the smooth operation of Forth’s office and IT systems on a day-to-day basis, and contribute to making Forth a place where people want to work and grow.

Human Resources and Culture (75%). The HR Associate supports Forth’s personnel and human resources programs and helps to ensure a strong workplace culture that puts people first and centers racial equity. Forth is a growing and nimble organization and the HR Associate should be flexible and prepared to support, create, and improve     new processes as appropriate. 

·      Coordinate HR processes including recruitment, onboarding, and offboarding

·      Benefits administration – coordinate enrollments, COBRA, and orientations; answer employee questions and manage broker and provider relationships with support from HR Manager

·      Payroll administration – train employees and managers on time tracking and approval procedures, compile and enter data for payroll processing accurately and before deadlines

·      Maintain current and organized personnel records

·      Draft updates to handbook, policies and written procedures as needed

·      Coordinate Forth’s Engagement Team meetings and activities; support Human Resources Manager in evaluating and strengthening workplace culture

·      Collaborate with Organizational Team to plan and coordinate quarterly all-team meetings and team building activities

·      Support the development and application of practices that advance the organization’s commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion 

Office and IT Management (25%). The HR Associate is the main point of contact for all items related to Forth’s physical office and IT systems. Additionally, the HR Associate must be flexible and prepared to assist in all aspects of organizational management.

·      Serve as initial point of contact for general calls and inquiries; greet and support visitors

·      Develop and implement office policies and procedures that keep our “ship” running smoothly

·      Coordinate with external IT support company to source, configure, maintain and troubleshoot office equipment including computers, printer and telephones; provide IT orientation for new staff and ongoing training as needed

·      Manage relationships with vendors, service providers, and landlord

·      Coordinate and participate on Safety Committee, ensure OR OSHA standards are met

·      Maintain and replenish inventory and office supplies

·      Receive and distribute mail




·      A passion for Forth’s mission and values and a desire to deepen your understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion

·      Minimum two years of experience in human resources, bookkeeping, office management or related administrative field

·      Demonstrated self-motivation, ability to work independently, and attention to detail without losing a “big picture” perspective

·      Ability to quickly learn new software and administrative systems and clearly explain them to others

·      Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, balanced with an approach that centers people

·      Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task and set realistic goals, demonstrated ability to manage multiple conflicting projects and meet deadlines

·      An ability to take the work seriously, without taking yourself too seriously

·      Ability to maintain confidentiality where necessary while generally operating in a collaborative and transparent manner

·      Located in or willing to move to the Portland, OR metropolitan area, and regularly work onsite at our downtown office (this role is classified as Hybrid, meaning some work may be done remotely and some work must be done at the office)



·      Formal training/education in human resource management, organizational development, payroll administration or related field

·      Knowledge of HR laws, practices and policies, and of best practices relating to diversity, inclusion, and equity

·      Experience working for a nonprofit organization with a mission-driven staff and board



Starting salary range is $44,000 - $51,000 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include four weeks of paid vacation annually, fully paid health, dental, and vision insurance for the employee and all dependents, and an employer retirement contribution after six months (no match required.) We also provide access to electric vehicles for business use.
